PREDAZZO, Italy – In a thrilling come-from-behind win, Team USA’s mixed relay team of Josh Sweeney (Glendale, Arizona), Oksana Masters (Louisville, Kentucky), Sydney Peterson (Lake Elmo, Minnesota), and Jake Adicoff (Sun Valley, Idaho) with guide Reid Goble (Harbor Springs, Michigan) stood atop the podium for the mixed 4x2.5-kilometer relay at Tesero Cross-Country Skiing Stadium.

“Being part of a team is always so much better,” Peterson said. “We did this four years ago, and now to be back here and do it four years later…we’ve all grown so much and been through a lot, and it's awesome to just be back and firing on all cylinders.”

En route to defending Team USA’s mixed relay gold from Beijing 2022, Sweeney set the tone with a strong opening leg, covering the course in 5:48.2 to hand off to Masters in second place. Masters kept the U.S. firmly in contention before Peterson delivered another stellar performance on skis. Entering the final leg 48.4 seconds off the lead, Adicoff and guide Goble surged through the field, passing three teams in thrilling fashion to power Team USA to gold.

“We were focusing on relaxing in the start, but watching the three amazing performances before, there was no relaxing to do,” Adicoff said. “I knew that we could maybe close that amount of time, but that it was still going to be a fight. We just went for it and winning as a team is…I'm in it for the people. So this is a fun day.”

Today’s win brings Masters’ Milano Cortina 2026 gold-medal tally to four, Adicoff’s to three and Peterson’s to two, while marking Sweeney’s first Paralympic gold since capturing sled hockey gold at Sochi 2014.

In the open 4x2.5km relay, the team of Erin Martin (Seattle, Washington), Michael Kneeland (Bozeman, Montana), Max Nelson (Grant, Minnesota) and guide Gus Schatzlein (Savage, Minnesota), and Jack Berry (Missoula, Montana) placed 11th.

Competition concludes on Sunday with the 20km race.
