Adicoff and Peterson claim gold, Masters takes home bronze to close Milano Cortina 2026
PREDAZZO, Italy – Capping off the Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games, Team USA added two gold medals and one bronze at Tesero Cross-Country Skiing Stadium, finishing with 15 total medals at the Games.
Jake Adicoff (Sun Valley, Idaho) and guide Peter Wolter (Hailey, Idaho) completed the four-event sweep, winning today’s 20-kilometer race in a time of 42:17.4. Adicoff and his two guides leave the Games with an impressive four golds secured, bringing Adicoff’s career medal count to eight.
“I'm so excited, so happy and I'm also a little relieved – it was a big, hefty goal, and it's been a long, long week fighting for it,” Adicoff said. “Finishing with the 20-kilmoeter race is hard. I didn't feel my best today. There were some really big moments of doubt out there. It was some really hard skiing, and it was a fight, but in the end, it's a fun day.”
Sydney Peterson (Lake Elmo, Minnesota) had another golden day on skis, winning the 20km event in a time of 47:25.8, crossing the finish line 1:17 ahead of the second-place finisher. The victory marks her third gold medal of the Milano Cortina 2026, and combined with her silver earlier in Italy, brings her career Paralympic medal total to seven.
“I felt really good skiing today…I just went out there and tried to pace a good race, and then I started getting splits and I'm really surprised at how the results shook out,” Peterson said. “I’m super thankful for all of the help from the wax techs, and coaches, and everyone who made this a successful Games.”
Capping off an impressive games with her fifth podium finish, Oksana Masters (Louisville, Kentucky) secured the bronze medal in the 20km race, finishing the course in 59:34.5. Masters’ bronze today adds to the four gold medals from Milano Cortina 2026, bringing her illustrious career total to 24, with her eyes already set on Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.
“To look back now and it’s my eighth games and I have 24 medals that I’ve brought home for Team USA…It's just incredible,” Masters said. “It's something that I just could not have achieved on my own and I have so many people helping me and I'm so thankful for that.”
In the women’s sitting class, Kendall Gretsch (Downers Grove, Illinois) narrowly missed the podium, but leaves Milano Cortina 2026 with four total medals, while Nicole Zaino (Brookfield, Connecticut) placed 12th. Dani Aravich (Boise, Idaho) placed seventh in the women’s standing class, while Josh Sweeney (Glendale, Arizona) and Dan Cnossen (Topeka, Kansas) placed 13th and 17th, respectively, in the men’s sitting field.
Today’s competition concludes the Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games, with U.S. Para Nordic skiers taking home 15 medals, including 10 golds, two silvers and three bronzes.
